Support Group: Taunton Breast Friends is a support group for those who have been given a diagnosis of Breast Cancer and those that have gone through or are currently going through treatment for Breast Cancer.

 

Based in Taunton, Somerset: We welcome members from Taunton and the surrounding area into our group.

Meetings & Activities: Taunton Breast Friends meets at least once a month as a group to welcome new members and to provide a safe space for discussion, friendship and support. Many meetings include a talk by a guest speaker on topics related to the diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of those affected by breast cancer. We are also involved in providing fun, educational and social events for our members for education and wellbeing.

Funding of the Group:
We rely on a combination of donations and fundraising activities to support the activities of the Group. All Group administrators provide their services for free as volunteers and all funding is used 100% for group activities and resources.

Respect and Empathy: We treat all members and participants with respect, empathy, and kindness. We recognise the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and emotions of individuals affected by a diagnosis of breast cancer.

 

Confidentiality: We maintain strict confidentiality and respect the privacy of all members. We do not disclose any personal or sensitive information shared within the support group without explicit permission
 

Non-judgmental Environment: We foster a non-judgmental and safe space for all participants to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences openly and avoid making assumptions or passing judgments on others' choices or decisions.
 

Active Listening: We practice active listening by giving our full attention to individuals when they share their stories or concerns. We always offer support and encouragement without interruption or distraction.
 

Language and Tone: We use respectful and inclusive language at all times. We never use offensive, derogatory, or discriminatory language that may hurt or alienate others. All members are to use acceptable language within the group and at meetings. Avoid ranting/personal opinions that a) might offend others or b) are not relevant to the group.
 

Confidentiality and respect on Social Media and within the group: When sharing to the support group on social media platforms, we ensure that no personal information or identifiable details of any individual are disclosed without their explicit consent. All members must use acceptable language on social media and whatsapp. Any ranting/personal opinions that may offend or are not relevant to the group will be taken down by admin and they will speak to the individual member.
 

Professional Boundaries: We maintain appropriate professional boundaries with members, volunteers, and staff. 
 

Conflict Resolution: Handle conflicts or disagreements in a respectful and constructive manner. Encourage open communication, active listening, and seek mediation if necessary to resolve conflicts. All members can approach admin as a whole or on an individual basis in regard to conflicts and issues within the group.
 

Professional Referrals: We provide accurate and reliable information to support group members, but remember that we are not a healthcare professionals. We encourage individuals to seek professional advice and medical guidance when needed. Admin will keep a watchful eye on any member of the group who may need signposting to a cancer health professional or GP. No medical advice is to be given to members from other members. Members should always seek advice from a GP or their cancer medical team.
 

Compliance with Laws and Regulations: We comply with all applicable laws and regulations related to the operation of the breast cancer support group, including but not limited to privacy laws, fundraising regulations, and reporting requirements.
